I first kayaked at school in the 70’s but really got involved in the sport when I worked in the Lake District and then when I moved to Jersey in 1982. I got involved in coaching and became a senior instructor as it was then. I have since been involved with coaching in Jersey Canoe Club and have worked at a number of symposiums. As a retired geography teacher I am especially interested in the seamanship and expedition aspects of sea kayaking such as understanding navigation, weather, tides and coastal features. I have been on many multi day trips for example to the west coast of Greenland, Baja – Mexico, Nordkapp – Norway, Maine, Brittany, Scotland and of course our local Channel Island waters. My favorite aspect of Sea Kayaking is the way it can transport us to some of the wildest parts of the world’s coastlines amongst our amazing marine environments and also allows access to some of the best campsites in the world.
